Options Available to You When Seeking Termite Treatments

by Anita Schmidt

While you may think termites are all the same wood-boring insects, the reality is that different kinds pose threats of varying degrees of damage. Thus, just as there is an assortment of termites that could infest your property, there are also many treatments that you can consider to correlate with your specific infestation.

Nonetheless, not many people are aware of the different termites that exist and the varying treatments that can be employed. Furthermore, some treatments work as preventative measures, minimising the threat of resurgence. If you have never had to deal with a termite infestation, this article explains the different options available to you when seeking termite treatments.

Ground termite treatment

Also commonly known as soil treatments, this measure is best when dealing with subterranean termites. These termites burrow deep into the ground to access your home from below. Before the treatment is applied, the pest control specialists will start by digging trenches around the perimeter of your property.

This step is followed by termite testing in the soil to determine the extent of the infestation. Once this is established, the pest control specialist will know what dosage of treatment needs to be applied in the trenches mentioned above. After the trench is refilled with soil, the treatment will exterminate existing termites while also reducing the chances of a recurring infestation.

Tent fumigation termite treatment

This form of termite treatment is best suited to dry wood termites. The dry wood termites tend to be found in timber structures rather than in the soil. Thus, not only will they burrow through timber beams, walls and decking but they will start to eat through your wood furniture too! When your home needs tent fumigation, the specialists will inform you to seek alternative accommodation while the treatment is underway.

This treatment starts with a tent placed over the entire structure, as implied by the name. Once the tent is in place, the specialists will start fumigating your home from inside, working their way outside. Tent fumigation is quite successful at exterminating termites since the treatment seeps into holes, cracks and crevices where these pests could be hiding. You will then be given a window of time that you should leave the house unoccupied until it is safe for you to go back inside. You can then opt to have the soil treated too, as this will ensure enhanced protection from a future infestation.
